Lampkin collects cheque on behalf of Pedal de Alps team
Chorley to Nice – August 2013

27th November 2013

Red Bull athlete and twelve times FIM Trial World Champion Dougie Lampkin was recently the grateful recipient of a cheque for two thousand, five hundred pounds on behalf of the Pedal de Alps team, which cycled from Chorley to Nice earlier this year to raise a substantial amount of money for the Lancashire based children's hospice Derian House.

With this pedal powered charity project nearly at a close this latest and large donation came thanks to the kind efforts of the villagers of East Morton near Keighley in West Yorkshire. The fund raising on this occasion centred around the Busfeild Arms Public House which is owned by well known trials rider and supporter Martin Crosswaite who was keen to do his bit for this worthy cause as he explained.

"As the only pub in the village we have a tradition of organising charity events. We have rugby on Boxing day, cricket in summer and the dinner at the end of the year. Each event supports various charities. The dinner this year raised £4,955 of which £2,500 is being donated to Derian House via the Pedal de Alps team, with the balance going to Alzheimer's charities. Our fundraising team really are the best and we cannot thank them enough."

Lampkin added his own words. "On behalf of the Pedal de Alps team I want to say a big thanks to Martin, his family and his fund raising team for this incredible and kind donation. This means that collectively we have now raised over thirty thousand pounds for Derian House, which is a simply unbelievable amount of money and is way beyond our initial target."

"With things almost at a close now I would like to say one final big thank you to each and every person who has supported or donated to this amazing project. Hopefully with the money that has been raised, we have done our bit to allow Derian House to continue to support families who desperately rely on the specialist services and care they provide when it is most needed."

"This is the first time I have been involved in a charity project of this scale and I have to say I am very proud of what my friend Paul (Dixon), my cousin James (Lampkin), Woody (Hole), my manager Jake (Miller) and myself have managed to achieve."

The challenge - Pedal de Alps - had a real personal purpose with the single aim to raise a substantial amount of money for Derian House in Chorley. Paul Dixon and his family sadly became acquainted with the specialist children's hospice for terminally ill youngsters during the short life of their son Harry who lost his battle with SMA Type 1 in June 2006, aged just fourteen weeks. (SMA is short for Spinal Muscular Atrophy and is a genetic disorder, affecting the motor neurons in the spinal cord)
